Information - Inlet valves
The induction valve is the end point of the intake system. The air-fuel mixture, necessary for the proper functioning of the engine, is pushed through the induction valve into the combustion chamber. A camshaft controls the opening and closing of the induction valve. The structure of the metal of the induction valve (especially the bottom - "the plate") differs significantly from the one of the outlet valve. This is determined by different thermal conditions of functioning.
The power of the engine is directly proportional to the amount of the combustible mixture and fuel that enters the cylinder through the inlet valve, as well as the quality of the cleaning the cylinder from smog through the outlet (exhaust) valves. In order to improve the filling of the engine, the inlet valve diameter is larger than the one of the outlet valve. During descent, the flow speed of the wasted mixture is higher than at the intake of the fresh one, due to the fact that the smog is pushed out by a piston.
The diameter of the inlet valve deals with the possibility of placing it in the cylinder head, and the piston height - with the forces of the valve mechanism performance. But it should not be too large in order to avoid installation of too strong valve springs, because this causes a great deterioration of the cams. The main elements of the valve became the head and the rod. In order to reduce the hydraulic losses during the in- and outlet, the passage from the valve head to the rod is very smooth. Valves are also affected by corrosion. Therefore, the material must always be resistant to wear out, because lubricating it is not satisfying.
If you want to extend the service life, the valve should be exposed to additional processing.
What you need to know about the intake valve: lifetime limits, common defects and their signs, tips and recommendations
The intake valve has no certain lifetime limit. Component is usually replaced in case of burning-out as a result of local overheating. You may also need a new engine intake valve if the old one was deformed.
Unstable engine work and its lowered power point at defects of the car intake valve. Moreover, extraneous sounds can be heard from the exhaust pipe, and vibration can be felt in the cabin. Another sign of defective component is engine overheating – a corresponding indicator on the dashboard points at it.
You can not diagnose valves breakdown by yourself. Only experienced service station specialists can perform high-quality inspection. They will define if there’s a need to replace the intake valve and if it is, they will install a new car part. One needs experience in engine disassembling to work with this component. Specific preliminary procedures are also required before component installation. Particularly, in order to install the intake valve, you will need to grind the seat where it is located.
