Information - Cam gear
Cogwheels are a key part of the gear. They are in the form of discs with tines of a conical or cylindrical shape cut on the surface. The cutters of one cogwheel engage with the ones of the other cogwheel. Usually, the small master cogwheel is called pinion and the large one is called simply "wheel", but very often they are both called pinions.
Cogwheel can safely engage with any other device that has similar teeth. Such mechanisms include racks and other non-rotating structures. It often happens that one cogwheel meshes with another. In this case, the rotation of one of the gears has to cause rotation of the other. As a consequence, the rotational motion must be transferred from one area to another (meaning from one shaft to another).
Cogwheels are usually used in pairs, but only with a different number of cutters, in order to transform the force and speed of rotation of the in- and output of the shaft. If the force to the wheel is fed from the outside, it is called leading. And then the wheel, from which the rotational force is withdrawn, is called a slave (driven). When the diameter of the driving wheel is smaller, the force of the driven wheel, therefore, is enhanced by the proportional reduction of the rotation speed, and vice versa.
In order to improve the transfer accuracy of the wheel with cast tines, they can be subjected to additional processing. Our online store is open for all customers who want to save time and money, but also appreciate the high quality of parts. Order cogwheels, or any other necessary parts, such as flywheels, oil coolers, controllers of the spring force increase, main brake cylinders or slave cylinders. You will get the ordered items in a very short time.
What you need to know about gears replacement: lifetime limits, common defects and their signs, tips and recommendations
Manufacturers do not specify certain service life of gears. Components are replaced if necessary: because of abrasion, deformation or teeth breakdown as well as in case of cracks or scratches on teeth or splines. Moreover, gears are to be replaced in case of wheel hubs mechanical damage.
Foreign sounds at running engine can detect problems with gears of the crankshaft, camshaft and the intermediate shaft. In some cases parts defects are pointed by fail of engine start. Defect sign of the oil pump drive gear can be pressure lowering in the lubrication system. The corresponding lamp on the dashboard will inform about it.
Diagnostics of car gears is performed at a service station because it usually requires demounting of some elements which trouble access to components. For example, it is necessary to demount auxiliary equipment in most cases to assess condition of camshaft gears, crankshaft gears, intermediate shaft gears, gears of the oil pump. In case of defects on components you should remove them and install new ones.
Components replacement should be performed at a service station because it is a laborious process which requires, particularly, lifting equipment. In some cases engine raising by jacking the car is necessary for gears demounting. At assembling these parts are installed in accordance with marks made on them. It is advisable to install new car parts in a kit because replacement of a single gear can lead to uneven wear-out of its teeth surface.
