When and why it is necessary to replace ABS control module

Operational lifetime of the ABS control module is not specified. Corrosion of electromagnetic valves, short-circuiting of hydraulic pump electromotor inner circuit can lead to necessity of this component replacement.

Oxidation of ABS control module parts is usually caused by car continuous non-use. Dampness and temperature variations cause harmful effect to system condition. And ingress of moisture inside of the ABS hydraulic block can lead to short circuit.

First of all, defectiveness is pointed out by the constantly lit ABS indicator lamp on the dashboard. Other signs of ABS hydraulic pump defect are: increase of the braking path, skids of the vehicle at maneuvering or sharp braking, troubled travel or full breakdown of the brake pedal.

It is recommended to entrust replacement of the brake system hydraulic pump to car service station specialists. It is a technically complicated process, after which air bleeding of the system is necessary to be performed. This procedure requires availability of special equipment – the vacuum pump.

How to select ABS control module

The brake hydraulic pumps differ by construction according to the type of ABS which they are designated for. Most modern cars are equipped with the quadruple circuit braking system, the control module of which is able to control each wheel separately. Thus, the system provides the most effective braking.

In order to make the anti-lock braking system perform its functions, give preference to components from reliable suppliers. High-quality ABS control modules are produced under such brands as Bosch, FTE, Textar and others.

During selection you should take into account not only car brand and model, but also the type of its body and the type of the engine installed in the car. Weight and dimensions of the components are no less important. In addition, the ABS control module should correspond to peculiarities of the factory brake system, otherwise it will be impossible to install the part.
