When and why it is necessary to replace brake light switch

Manufacturers do not specify exact lifetime of the brake light switch. It is replaced because of jamming, mechanical damaging, corrosion of metal elements, thermal damaging of contacts.

Ingress of dust and moisture into the component body, intense mechanical damage (usually as a result of a road accident) can lead to breakage of the part. The contacts can be damaged after voltage variations, improper adjustment of the switch, or gap increasing which occurs due to wear-out.

In case of part defect, the stop lights may not be activated at brake pedal pressing, be on constantly, or go on and then immediately go out. Moreover, the ESP or car lighting warning indicator may activate on the dashboard. You need to check if the stop lights and brakes operate normally after installation of a new switch.

How to select brake light switch

The items differ by contacts quantity: there can be two or four of them. The components with two contacts are not connected to the ESP system, which makes them different from the four-contact ones.
