Technical features of Mazda vehicles

• i-ACTIV part-time all-wheel drive. Used for the first time in 2013 in the CX-5 KE crossovers, nowadays cars such as the CX-5 KF are equipped with this drive. Using the data from various sensors, the i-ACTIV technology provides good road grip even in severe weather conditions. Moreover, it takes into account driving style features: the sharpness of turning the steering wheel and the intensity of pressing the brake pedal.

For instance, the restyled estate car 6 GL is equipped with a SkyActiv-D diesel engine with 2.2 litres displacement and 150 hp output. Its max torque of 380 Nm is reached at 1,800 rpm.
• i-ELOOP regenerative braking system. It helps to reduce fuel consumption by transforming the kinetic energy produced in braking into electric energy. The latter is used, for example, to power climate control or audio equipment. i-ELOOP has been used in the 6 GJ saloons and estate cars since 2012.

Design features

Modern Mazda cars are created according to the “KODO: Soul of Motion” concept of designer Ikuo Maeda. This design idea was first embodied in the exterior of the Shinari concept car. This sport saloon was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2011. Each exterior line of this car is reminiscent of a vigorous animal ready to pounce. The headlights look like a predator’s eyes, and sculptured parts of the car body are associated with tensed muscles.

When creating the interiors, the company designers follow the “Human-centric” idea and try to make the passenger compartments as comfortable as possible. For instance, the accelerator pedal of the 2 and MX-5 models is located in such a way that the driver’s foot is in a natural position, and helps reduce fatigue.

Safety systems in Mazda models

The technologies used by the manufacturer include the adaptive headlight system AFS with automatic high beam control (HBC). Further driver assisting functions such as driver attention alert (DAA), lane keeping (LAS), and blind spots monitoring (BSM) are offered as well.

The CX-5 KF crossover is equipped with the Advanced Smart City Brake Support technology. It helps maintain an optimal distance to the cars driving ahead. If there is a high risk of collision, the braking mechanism is activated. The Smart City Brake Support system was first used on the CX-5 KE crossover in 2012.

The MRCC cruise control has been available for the most cars of the make since 2016. Using radar, it estimates the distance to the vehicles moving ahead within 1 mm accuracy, and prevents the car from moving into dangerous proximity to them.
