Apart from a lithium-ion battery with a power output of 155 kW, the vehicle has two tanks containing a total of 4.4 kg of hydrogen. The car is able to work on either electrical power or hydrogen, or both. To travel 100 km, it requires 0.34 kg of hydrogen and 13.7 kWh of power from the battery when driving in the combined mode. Hereby the level of CO2 emissions is equal to zero.

Design features

The company uses the “Sensual Purity” design concept as of 2009. It was developed by Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG. The idea centers around combining emotions and intelligence: an attractive, streamlined body and high-tech. The concept is embodied, for example, in the exterior of A-class Mercedes-Benz cars. Its sporty character shows itself in every detail: low bonnet, LED headlights with chromed frame, and large wheel arches. Additionally, narrow 2-section rear lamps and protruding air inlets follow the shape of the radiator grille.

The avant-garde interior style is highlighted by the dashboard, which is divided into two 3D horizontal sections. The upper one is a wide display, the lower one is visually separated from the main body of the dashboard by a groove which creates an illusion of hovering.

Safety systems in Mercedes-Benz models

The Pre-Safe system intended for collision detection and prevention is available for almost all Mercedes-Benz S-class models since 2003. In emergency situations, this system automatically tightens the seatbelts, moves the seats and headrests to optimal positions, and closes the windows. In time, audible and visual warnings were added, as well as pedestrian detection function and autonomous braking in case of danger.

The following systems are available for modern cars of the brand: Blind Spot Monitoring System, emergency braking, side collision protection, and an Attention Assist that monitors the driver’s fatigue level. An adaptive Brake system with a hill-holder reduces the braking path.
