Technical features of Volvo vehicles

• 8-speed Geartronic automatic transmission. It minimizes engine power loss when shifting gears. Manual control mode is also provided. This automatic transmission was first used in 2002 in the Volvo XC90 and S80 models. Nowadays it’s installed in the S90 and V60 cars, for example.

Design features

The exterior of these vehicles is created under the supervision of the designer Thomas Ingenlath. Main design solutions were embodied in the outward appearance of a series of concept cars: the Concept Coupe, Concept XC Coupe, and Concept Estate. They were presented at the International Motor Show Germany in 2014. The exterior of the modern models redefines elements of the 60s’ iconic models. The headlights are framed with T-shape daytime running lights, and the rear lights resemble the outlines of the letter E. The sculptured bonnet and compact radiator grille make the cars look more respectable.

The interior of the cars is minimalistic in the Scandinavian style: The driver’s comfort is the first priority. Therefore the manufacturer simplified the dashboard of the XC90 SUV by reducing the number of control buttons from 42 to 8. The passenger compartment doesn’t have many trim elements, as safety and moderation are the most important aspects.

Safety systems in Volvo models

The Pilot Assist system was installed in the S90 saloon in 2016. It helps staying in one lane. The City Safety system with a pedestrian detection function was introduced in the XC60 car in 2007. It monitors the distance to the objects ahead and automatically slows down the vehicle when it comes into dangerous proximity to them.

The Rear Collision Warning (RCW) system is offered for the V90 estate car that has been available since 2016. It monitors the road situation behind the car and, in case of collision risk, gives light warnings, tightens the seat belts, and initiates braking.
