Information - Ignition control unit
Ignition module is a device with two ignition coils and two coupling devices. They are operated by a controller, which sends a signal through ignition drive circuits to cylinders. This distribution is a method of an idle spark. The module serves to form a high-voltage ignition on spark plugs. In its turn, the control unit is responsible for the formation of low-voltage control signals that cohere with the position of the crankshaft for the ignition module. The end of the signal starts the spark ignition, the duration of which depends on the charge of the coil and on-board network voltage.
As a rule, it is very simple to determine the off state of the ignition module. At once two cylinders lose ignition, i.e. one channel fails. With the spark tester you can always determine whether everything is okay with these elements. However, often another problem occurs when the ignition module provides a normal ignition, but at the same time leads to a failure when the engine is cold. Keep in mind that if the engine and module, which is located on it, are not properly warmed up, the engine will not operate properly. In this case, when the car accelerates at a slower transmission, it starts to jerk.
Moreover, it is a problem to start a cold engine. Another failure is misfire in car engine cylinders. The consequence of such failure can be increased fuel consumption, failure of the catalytic converter, as well as the deterioration of riding qualities. Therefore, if there are problems with ignition module, we advise you to replace it with a new one. Of course, this spare part is not cheap in service centres or specialty shops. This is the reason to buy it and camshaft, throttle valve or slave cylinder in our online shop.
What is necessary to know about igniter replacement: lifetime limits, common defects and their signs, tips and recommendations
Lifetime limit of the igniter is not specified. Most of all the part is replaced due to contacts oxidation, resulting in the fact that the igniter does not send current impulses to the ignition coil, and due to short circuit. Defectiveness of the ignition system igniter is indicated by unstable operation or sudden stop of the engine.
Diagnostics of the component is performed by an electrician at a service station. Often, a known-to-be-working igniter is installed for diagnostics. Positive changes in engine operation confirm that the problem was in the igniter. Also operability of the component is checked with the help of a multimeter.
It is advised to apply to a specialist for help with igniter replacement, as work with electric wiring requires strict following of safety regulations. In addition, the algorithm of component replacement may be significantly different according to the car model.
Diagnostics of electric wiring sections connected to the ignition system can be performed simultaneously with igniter replacement. Often, failures with engine operation are related to not only this part defects, but also to poor condition of wires which connect the igniter to other ignition system elements.
