Information - Shock Absorber

Damper is a mechanism that converts mechanical energy into heat. In modern vehicles, it refers to a device that allows you to soften seating or embarkation, stopping, or any other unfortunate situations, which can occure to the vehicle. And it secures first of all not so much the car as the driver and passengers.

The damper consists of springs, gas, torsion bars, liquids, and, of course, of rubber parts. It works the following way: the spring, which takes up the hit of a collision while seating or stopping, turns the resulting energy into heat, which is then used to heat the oil. Moreover, the level of viscosity of the oil, which the driver fills in the damper, must affect it`s performance, given the wide range of possible temperatures in the working vehicle.

All dampers can be divided into hydraulic, gas, and blow. This division is conditional, because in all these cases the "central" node - the valve essentially remains unchanged.

The main valve moves inside the central cylinder. In the hydraulic and blow dampers, there is also an outer cylinder, where the oil is moved through the system of the lower valve. The gas damper does not have an outer cylinder.

If you need to replace the camshaft, it is not necessary to spend time for shopping or cervice centers. In this case you will not only loose time, but also significantly overpay for the necessary part. It is better to go to our online store. We offer a large selection of camshafts for any car brand. Order the necessary part at a very affordable price. And we will make sure that the delivery will be made in a short time. Apart from camshaft, you can also buy other car parts such as bearing damper, spark plugs or flange.

Our customers ask

Which shock absorbers are better: gas or oil?

To choose shock absorbers or shock absorber struts more suitable for your car, take into account its operating conditions or prefer production of famous companies. Oil shock absorbers are cheap, they perfectly soften road irregularities and provide comfort driving on the speed up to 80 kmh.

Gas-oil absorbers are more universal. They have good damping properties, provide good steerability of the vehicle during high-speed driving, prevent body roll.

Gas absorbers are the most stiff and less comfortable, but provide excellent maneuverability at high speeds. Usually they are installed in racing cars. In order to achieve optimal ratio of comfort and steerability, you can install stiffer gas absorbers in the front, and softer oil shock absorbers as rear ones.

How to replace shock absorbers?

To replace shock absorbers, shock absorber struts, shock absorber top mounts or arm bushes, it is necessary to demount wheels, which is quite difficult to perform by your own if you don’t have appropriate skills and equipment. Moreover, to gain access to top mounts, you may require dismantling of engine bay seals, in case if front absorbers need to be replaced; or boot trimming if rear. Special clamps for springs removal will be required. That is why replacement of shock absorbers, among which there are strut mount bearing, rubbers, dust boots and bushes, should be entrusted to professionals. Thoroughly study the vehicle technical documentation during self-maintained installation before starting the works.

How to check shock absorbers operability?

Operability of shock absorbers should be checked on a special test stand at the service station: this is the only way to achieve precise data about components operability. The method of diagnostics popular among car owners is in car tilting, which gives true results only in case if condition of shock absorbers or struts is close to critical. Usually, indirect signs, such as unusual sounds in suspension, steerability worsening, inclinations of the vehicle in turns, indicate wear-out of components. Also a defect of front shock absorbers can be suspected in case if the car touches the road with its bottom at braking; and rear – if body knocks become more rapid, especially when the car is heavy loaded. Also poor condition of shock absorbers may be indicated by high tilting of vehicle after rough riding.
