When and why a power window button needs replacement

Manufacturers do not set a specific operational lifetime limit of the part. Usually, replacement of the power window button is performed after short circuit or oxidation of contacts.

The cause of short circuit is increased current, which occurs due to defect of the power window motor. And oxidation of contacts happens because of moisture ingress, for example, through open window during rain or washing.

Breakdown of the power window button is indicated by absence of its reaction to pressing or activation only after a few tries. Also if a button is faulty, the window may operate in one mode only.

Removal of the door trim is necessary for part replacement.Also it is recommended to close the window before part demounting. Contacts of a new button can be treated with a special lubricant for electrical connections before installation. This will help to protect contacts from water influence.

How to select a power window button

The power window buttons differ by operating principle. Some directly control the power window electromotor, others – send a signal to the control module. Also the buttons vary by shape. For example, there are double and single (made in a form of a lever). In double components changing of window position is performed by pressing of one of two button parts. For comfort matters, items of this type are often equipped with lighting. Most parts made in the form of a lever work according to the following principle: in order to lower the window you need to press the button, in order to raise – pull it.

Also you need to take into account for which door you need the part: the buttons vary according to mounting location (in the right, left, front or rear).
