Changing the Engine oil in your BMW 5 Series E39: what you need to know
We recommend changing the Engine oil in a 01.1996 - 06.2003 E39 every 150.000 kilometres. However, driving in traffic jams and over short distances leads to needing more frequent oil changes.
If the Oil in your BMW 5 Series E39 has reached the end of its service life, this is indicated by:
- rapid blackening and thickening
- white emulsion on the dipstick
- excessive engine noise.
